The shoe, which was designed by Jonathan Bacon, was crafted to offer support and comfort for either casual daily wear or athletic activities such as running. The New Balance 992 Grey is made with suede and mesh uppers, which offer both support and a snug fit as well as plenty of airflow. The ABZORB cushioning material, found in the sole and heel of the shoe, is designed to absorb impact, reducing stress on the joints.
